Scientific Committee
The GR.A.N.D. Scientific Committee, chaired by Prof. Livio De Santoli - Pro-Rector for Sustainability of La Sapienza University, is made up of expert professionals with interdisciplinary skills, coming from the academic, institutional, entrepreneurial and consultancy world, ensures excellent training and the development of a training proposal for a new efficient and low-carbon business model. The Committee's objectives also include the strategic direction of the actions to be undertaken with Italian and European institutions for an energy transition and decarbonisation process.

The Scientific Committee, to respond to the growing request from companies to deal with the continuous threats deriving from ongoing climate change with consequent physical and economic impacts on the production system, wanted to develop a course "The industrial and economic benefits of decarbonisation" aimed at companies to develop the right skills in order to face the threats deriving from ongoing climate change and reduce the physical and economic impacts on the production system through the opportunities deriving from the adoption of circular economy models, with undoubted advantages on the efficiency of production processes and reduction of operating costs and improvement of the environmental impact and the use of renewable sources, with reduction of energy costs and carbon footprint, the increase in competitiveness on the markets and attractiveness for talent, the improvement of resilience to climate change, with undoubtedly positive effects on the image of the company by customers, investors and partners and the improvement of the rating for access to credit.

The GR.A.N.D. program starts from the new European regulatory framework presented by the European Commission in February 2025, the Clean Industrial Deal, which aims to support the competitiveness and resilience of the EU industry by looking at decarbonisation as one of the drivers for growth and from the resulting Act of guidance on political priorities for the three-year period 2025-2027, which in turn outlines the areas of intervention to accelerate the green transition, through the spread of renewables, energy efficiency interventions and the widespread promotion of technological innovations (IA).

The program is developed in a Basic Course, which illustrates the international and European regulatory framework of the energy transition, highlights the industrial and economic benefits and advantages expected for businesses through the use of renewable energy and the use of the circular economy, on the tools and financing for the energy transition, on the context of governance and risk management strategies in addressing climate risk in compliance with the framework of sustainable finance, on the evaluation and financing of a green project, on the water efficiency and saving strategies and technologies to be adopted by businesses and on the impact of artificial intelligence in the world of energy efficiency and renewables. Alongside the Basic Course, additional specialist modules are also planned which will be provided upon request of at least 8 participants in live streaming mode and which concern the opportunities and economic advantages of other renewable technologies that complement the more well-known photovoltaic, such as wind, geothermal, hydrogen, energy storage and smart grids, as well as cybersecurity and the mitigation strategies and actions of municipalities in their relationship with businesses.
